Hi, I am Kara Allan, a Personal Style Coach and Makeup Artist! I teach clients how to have a Powerful Presence Through Their Appearance! What does that mean? I help you discover who you are authentically so you can present yourself aesthetically. I teach you how to dress your unique body type, where to shop and what to select for your wardrobe based on your personality, lifestyle and budget, which will save you time and money. Why is this important? It saves you frustration by only having clothes that you love, fit you well and support your lifestyle. I am delighted you are here because we are going to be great friends… why? because we both think a lot alike… We want to look and feel great without having to think too hard or spend too much time doing it.
Do any of these scenarios sound familiar:
If you answered yes to at least one and possibly all of the questions, you have come to the right place.
As a reformed tomboy and a self-professed nerd, I had the same challenges I know you are having with figuring out how to present the “real me” to the world. All the magazines and commercials show perfect people with perfect figures and not a hair out of place. Say it with me “not real!” Most of those people have been photo shopped within an inch of their lives and the others have professionals transforming them to look like that. Trust me, I’ve seen it first hand and had a hand as a personal style consultant in some of that transforming as well. So where does that leave you? In a great place, with me!
I grew up with a dad who thought makeup was for women who were trying to get men (really, dad) and a mom who stayed home to raise us and never wore makeup or wore heels very often. I had to fend for myself in the style and glam department. I was a nerdy, skinny kid who was shy and looked awkward. It was tough, I never felt like I fit in. Nobody wants to feel left out or not cool, that sucks, no matter how old or young you are.
Fortunately I had friends who liked makeup and introduced me to it, not that any of us knew what we were doing mind you, on a good day I looked like a bad version of Rainbow Bright, lol. Eventually I started working at the local mall in retail stores and my calling whispered out to me. I discovered I had a knack for putting together great outfits and people started paying attention to me, which made me feel really good. What really made my heart sing, was helping a customer who had no clue what to choose, why it looked good or bad and was completely frustrated with shopping. Fortunately, that was my first attempt as a personal clothing stylist!
Soon after my discovery, I got married and birthed two wonderful human beings, I completely lost my sense of self, direction and passion for style. For a little while I was a stay at home mom and wasn’t sure how to dress my post baby body. To be honest I was a little depressed.

Without a vision the people perish right? Eventually I got it together when I had to go back to work and started liking get dressed again. One day my mom showed me an article in the Washington Post about a local Image Consultant and she said you should be doing this! I spoke to my hairdresser, Keith Harley about it and turns out he knew Darlene Mathis and he gave me her number. The rest, as they say, is history.
Along the way I had the pleasure of training with Carla Mathis and Stacy London of “What Not to Wear” and “Love, Lust or Run and I learned so much about style and how to help my clients look and feel their best. It has been the experience of a lifetime as a makeover consultant. I want to help you learn in a few months what it took me 20 plus years about style, dressing your body and letting your personality shine. Needless to say I understand where you are and where you’ve been and I really want to help you create a wardrobe you can’t wait to wear, radiate confidence and look amazing all the time. I know what it did for me so I know what it’ll do for you.
